Hosts England made a sensational start to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, defeating Sri Lanka by 87 runs at Edgbaston.

Batting first, England posted a tournament-record 219/1, the highest total in Women’s T20 World Cup history. Opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge starred with an unbeaten 105 off 62 balls, while Amy Jones contributed 53 and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt smashed 46 from 22 deliveries. Chasing 220, Sri Lanka struggled from the outset and were restricted to 132. Freya Kemp impressed with the ball, claiming 4/22, while England’s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings.

The emphatic victory extends England’s unbeaten record in Women’s World Cup matches on home soil and sends a strong message to their title rivals.
