Babar Azam all-format captaincy
Pakistan star Babar Azam reportedly agreed to become the Test captain only after receiving assurances that he could regain the captaincy across all three formats if the team performs well.
According to a Telecom Asia Sport report, selectors approached Babar after Shan Masood’s poor Test record, and the former skipper accepted the role with the condition that successful performances in the ongoing Test tours of the West Indies and England would strengthen his claim for all-format leadership. The report also stated that Salman Agha declined the Test captaincy, while ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi’s future remains uncertain.
Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali has also predicted that Babar could lead Pakistan in all formats, including the 2027 ODI World Cup.
