Mirabai Chanu Wins Third Straight Gold, Breaks Games Records
Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu created history by winning the women’s 48kg weightlifting gold at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, becoming a three-time consecutive Commonwealth champion.
The Indian star recovered from a failed opening snatch attempt to lift 85kg, setting new Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth records. She then sealed the gold with a successful 105kg clean and jerk after missing her first attempt. Mirabai’s triumph follows her gold-medal victories at Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022.
Earlier, Rishikanta Singh Chanambam opened India’s weightlifting campaign with a silver medal in the men’s 60kg category, breaking the Commonwealth Games snatch record with a lift of 121kg before finishing with a total of 264kg.
