Amanda Anisimov
Fourth seed Amanda Anisimova of the United States staged a superb comeback to defeat second seed Iga Swiatek of Poland 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2 on Wednesday and advance to the WTA Finals semifinals.
Both players had one win and one loss before the match, making it a must-win for the remaining semifinal spot from the Serena Williams group. After losing a tight opening set, Anisimova fought back to level the contest and then dominated the decider. With this win, she joined group leader Elena Rybakina, who beat Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 6-4 to secure her third straight victory.
