Zheng Qinwen Stuns Iga Swiatek to Reach US Open Quarterfinals

China’s Zheng Qinwen produced another stunning comeback at the 2026 US Open, defeating former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek 7-5, 6-3 to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The Olympic champion recovered from 0-5 down in the opening set before taking control and completing a straight-sets victory over the No. 8 seed. Zheng, who also fought back from 0-5 against Madison Keys in her previous match, reached the US Open quarterfinals for the third time. The 23-year-old became the first qualifier to reach the women’s singles quarterfinals at the US Open since Emma Raducanu in 2021.

“I guess coming back from 0-5 on Saturday was not lucky,” claimed Zheng, shortly after dropping her racquet and falling to the baseline flat out in celebration. “I didn’t start the match so well, but little by little I found my rhythm on this centre court, because it’s been a long, long time since I’ve played here. I really appreciate being back at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

She also became the first qualifier or lucky loser to defeat Swiatek at a Grand Slam, ending the Polish star’s 15-0 record against such opponents.
