Elena Rybakina Beats Aryna Sabalenka to Win US Open Title
Elena Rybakina defeated two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to win the US Open women’s singles title on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The Kazakh star completed the victory in 2 hours and 21 minutes, securing her third Grand Slam title of the season after also beating Sabalenka in the Australian Open final in January. Rybakina’s triumph marked her first US Open crown and moved her one Roland Garros title away from completing a Career Grand Slam. Her run also ended Sabalenka’s 99-week reign at world No. 1, with Rybakina set to take the top ranking when the new standings are released. Rybakina became only the third player since 2000, after Angelique Kerber and Sabalenka, to win the Australian Open and US Open in the same year.
The victory improved her record against Sabalenka to 8-10, with her last three wins coming in major finals.
