Teen batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has received his maiden India T20I call-up for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games.
The selectors have also appointed Shreyas Iyer as India’s new T20I captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who has been omitted from all three squads. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said Sooryavanshi’s performances forced the selectors’ hand after an outstanding IPL 2026 and Under-19 World Cup campaign. The youngster becomes India’s youngest men’s squad selection since Sachin Tendulkar in 1989.
Meanwhile, Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain as India begin preparations for the next T20 World Cup cycle.
