Shadab Khan produced a sensational unbeaten 113 to guide Pakistan to a dramatic one-wicket victory over England in Lahore on Sunday, securing the hosts’ place in the tri-series final.
Chasing 242, Pakistan slumped to 154/9 and appeared destined for defeat. However, Shadab and number 11 Haris Rauf staged a remarkable recovery, sharing an unbeaten 89-run partnership for the final wicket. Rauf struck the winning boundary with 17 balls remaining, completing Pakistan’s stunning comeback. Shadab smashed five sixes and 13 fours, recording the highest individual score by a number eight batter in men’s ODIs.
He also survived a crucial leg-before appeal against Gus Atkinson after successfully reviewing the decision with 20 runs needed. Earlier, Ben Duckett top-scored for England with 105, while Sam Curran contributed 42 in a 93-run fifth-wicket partnership. England were dismissed for 241 in 46.4 overs. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi led the bowling attack with 4/46, while ODI debutant Razaullah claimed 2/38.
The defeat left England’s hopes of reaching the October 31 final dependent on subsequent results.
