Argentina’s Thiago Agustin Tirante pulled off a major upset at the U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship, defeating top seed Ben Shelton in three sets.
After losing a tight first-set tiebreak, Tirante bounced back strongly to win 6-3, 6-4, showcasing excellent serving throughout. Shelton’s struggles continue, failing to go beyond the round of 16 since February. Elsewhere, Frances Tiafoe edged past Alexei Popyrin in a thrilling three-set battle to set up an all-American semifinal with Tommy Paul. Roman Andres Burruchaga also advanced and will face Tirante in an all-Argentine clash.
In Marrakech and Bucharest, several players progressed as tournament action intensified across venues.
