Gill Calls T20 World Cup Omission ‘Destiny’, Focuses on ODIs

Shubman Gill rues missed opportunity as Gujarat Titans fall short in IPL 2026 final

India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill on Saturday said he respected selectors’ shock call to drop him from the home T20 World Cup squad, calling it destiny.

The 26-year-old will lead India in three ODIs against New Zealand in Vadodara before a five-match T20 series. Gill was omitted after scoring 291 runs in 15 recent T20 matches. He wished the Suryakumar Yadav-led side success. Gill said captaining alongside Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was invaluable.

New Zealand skipper Michael Bracewell hopes Indian conditions aid World Cup preparation, confirming debutant Kristian Clarke for upcoming tournaments and challenging bilateral contests.
