Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) following knee surgery, dashing hopes of becoming the first Indian international to play in the tournament.
The 39-year-old, who signed with Sydney Thunder in September, expressed disappointment, saying his focus is now on recovery. Having retired from international cricket in December and the IPL in August, Ashwin was free to join overseas leagues.
Sydney Thunder’s general manager Trent Copeland wished him a speedy recovery. Ashwin ends his illustrious India career with 537 Test wickets, alongside appearances in 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is.
