Former world champion PV Sindhu overcame a testing start to defeat Japan’s Manami Suizu in straight games in the opening round of the Indonesia Masters on Wednesday.
After trailing 2-11 in the first game, Sindhu saved four game points to clinch it 22-20 before sealing the match 21-18. She will next face Line Kjaersfeldt or Han Qian Xi. Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth edged past Japan’s Koki Watanabe 21-15, 21-23, 24-22 in a thrilling contest and will meet fourth seed Chou Tien Chen.
