Paul Stirling has stepped down as Ireland’s T20I captain with immediate effect following the team’s recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign.
The 35-year-old’s tournament was cut short due to a knee injury, with Lorcan Tucker taking over captaincy. Stirling called it an honour to lead the side but said the decision will help him focus on his performance.
He will continue as ODI captain, aiming for World Cup qualification. Stirling led Ireland in 48 T20Is and remains their highest run-scorer in the format with 3895 runs.
