Rain forced the abandonment of the opening Super Eights clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup between Pakistan and New Zealand at the R Premadasa Stadium.
Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to bat, but persistent showers prevented a ball from being bowled. With tournament rules requiring a minimum of five overs per side and no reserve day in the Super Eights, officials called off the match.
Both teams shared one point in Group 2, complicating their semifinal hopes in a tightly contested group.
