Pakistan edged South Africa by two wickets in a thrilling last-over finish in the first ODI at Faisalabad on Tuesday.
Chasing 264, Pakistan were cruising at 241-4 before a late collapse saw them lose four wickets for 22 runs. With scores tied, Naseem Shah hit the winning single to secure a 1-0 series lead.
Earlier, Salman Agha (62) and Mohammad Rizwan (55) anchored Pakistan’s chase after South Africa posted 263, led by Quinton de Kock’s 63 and debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius’s 57. Shaheen Shah Afridi’s side celebrated the return of international cricket to Faisalabad after 17 years with a memorable win.
