The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved major changes to the formats of its flagship men’s tournaments, introducing a three-stage structure for the 14-team ODI World Cup and a revamped Super 10 stage for the 20-team T20 World Cup.
Under the new ODI format, the tournament will feature a Super Series, followed by group-stage action and a seven-team Super 7 round before the semi-finals. The T20 World Cup will now have five groups of four teams, with the top two from each group progressing to the Super 10 stage. Cross-over eliminators will determine the final two semi-finalists.
The ICC said the changes are aimed at creating more meaningful matches, improving competitiveness and enhancing the fan experience.
