Deepti Sharma produced a sensational all-round performance, scoring 58 and taking 5/39 as India defeated South Africa by 52 runs to win their maiden Women’s ODI World Cup title at DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.
Shafali Verma’s blazing 87 and Smriti Mandhana’s 45 helped India post 298/7 before Deepti’s heroics with the ball sealed the triumph. Laura Wolvaardt’s fighting century went in vain as South Africa were bowled out for 246.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s side made history, becoming only the third nation after England and Australia to win both men’s and women’s ODI World Cups.
