Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka labelled his team’s 61-run defeat to New Zealand at the R Premadasa Stadium as “very embarrassing” after their semi-final hopes ended in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup.
Chasing 169, Sri Lanka slumped to 107/8, undone by Rachin Ravindra’s 4-27 and disciplined spin bowling.
Shanaka admitted the side conceded too many runs late in the first innings and criticised the lack of batting intent. He stressed the need for responsibility and positive strokeplay, urging his team to finish their final game on a high note.
