Cristiano Ronaldo Confirms FIFA World Cup Retirement After Portugal’s Round of 16 Exit

Cristiano Ronaldo World Cup retirement

Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that the 2026 FIFA World Cup was the last of his illustrious career after Portugal’s 1-0 Round of 16 defeat to Spain.

The 41-year-old ended his World Cup journey with 27 appearances and 11 goals, becoming the first player to score in six different editions of the tournament. Ronaldo netted three goals at the 2026 World Cup, including his first-ever knockout-stage goal against Croatia. Reflecting on Portugal’s elimination, the legendary forward said he leaves with a “clear conscience” after giving everything for his country.

Although he won Euro 2016 and two UEFA Nations League titles with Portugal, the FIFA World Cup remained the only major international trophy to elude him.
