Alexander Zverev Reaches Maiden Wimbledon Final After Defeating Arthur Fery
Alexander Zverev booked his first Wimbledon final with a dominant 7-6(0), 6-2, 6-4 victory over British wildcard Arthur Fery on Centre Court.
The second seed overcame a competitive opening set before taking complete control, extending his Grand Slam winning streak to 13 matches following his Roland Garros triumph. Zverev has now reached his fifth major final and becomes only the third German man to reach a Wimbledon final after Boris Becker and Michael Stich. The 29-year-old will also return to the world’s top two in the rankings next week.
Fery’s impressive breakthrough run ended in the semifinals, but the Briton leaves Wimbledon with a career-high live ranking of No. 36 after defeating several higher-ranked opponents during a memorable fortnight.
