Jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan was moved to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for medical tests following an order from the Supreme Court, his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party confirmed on Friday.
Khan’s lawyers had sought a medical examination, citing concerns over his health, prompting the three-member bench to order his hospitalisation. Heavy police security was deployed around the hospital as supporters gathered outside. The court also directed that Khan be allowed to meet his family once a week and speak with his sons by telephone twice a week.
A panel of specialists will oversee his treatment, with his sister and doctor, Uzma Khan, permitted to participate. Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since 2023 and maintains that the charges against him are politically motivated.
