Seventh seed Felix Auger-Aliassime’s Australian Open campaign ended abruptly on Monday as the Canadian retired due to cramp during his first-round match, handing Portugal’s Nuno Borges a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Struggling with discomfort in his upper left leg, Auger-Aliassime was unable to continue early in the fourth set. Meanwhile, home favourite Alex de Minaur stormed into the second round with a straight-sets win over Mackenzie McDonald.
