Dilshan Madushanka claimed a career-best 5/34 as Sri Lanka crushed Pakistan by eight wickets in Lahore on Tuesday, securing their place in the tri-series final and ending England’s hopes of qualification.
Pakistan were bowled out for just 110 in 25.3 overs after Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis elected to bowl first at Gaddafi Stadium. Spinner Sahan Arachchige supported Madushanka brilliantly, taking 2/24.
Babar Azam top-scored for Pakistan with 29, while Hasan Nawaz contributed 17. Madushanka dismissed Fakhar Zaman, Saad Baig, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, while Eshan Malinga removed Azam for 29. Sri Lanka chased down the modest target in just 18.1 overs, losing only two wickets.
Kamindu Mendis led the pursuit with an unbeaten 62 off 60 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. Pavan Rathnayake remained unbeaten on 23. The victory was Sri Lanka’s second in three matches, enough to eliminate England from contention.
Pakistan had already qualified for Sunday’s final with three wins. Madushanka surpassed his previous best ODI figures of 5/80, recorded against India during the 2023 World Cup in Mumbai. Pakistan’s 110 was their second-lowest ODI total at home.
