Southern Brave Beat Welsh Fire Women by 8 Runs as Sophie Molineux Stars
Southern Brave captain Sophie Molineux delivered a match-winning all-round bowling performance as her side staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Welsh Fire Women by eight runs in The Hundred at The Utilita Bowl.
Chasing 127, Welsh Fire appeared to be cruising after Georgia Voll’s 52 off 39 balls and Freya Kemp’s 39 guided them to 80/2 with plenty of deliveries remaining. However, Molineux turned the game on its head with three crucial wickets, including the dismissals of Sophie Devine and Niamh Holland, while Lauren Bell chipped in with two wickets.
Despite dropping seven catches in the field, Southern Brave held their nerve as Tilly Corteen-Coleman and Bell struck at key moments to restrict Welsh Fire to 118/8 and secure a dramatic victory.
