Welsh Fire captain Phil Salt produced a composed unbeaten 47 to guide his side to a six-wicket victory over Southern Brave in their opening match of The Hundred 2026 in Southampton.
Chasing 136, Salt anchored the innings after Matt Short’s quick 20, adding valuable partnerships with Joe Root (14) and Rachin Ravindra (24). With nine runs needed from the final five balls, Asa Tribe struck a crucial boundary before Salt sealed the win with a towering six. Earlier, Southern Brave posted 135/7, thanks to 18-year-old Thomas Rew’s impressive 41 and David Miller’s late unbeaten-style knock of 44 off 35 balls.
