Shubman Gill produced a record-breaking 223* as India chased down 406 against West Indies to secure an eight-wicket win in the second ODI at Guwahati. India reached 407/2 in just 43.3 overs, completing their highest successful ODI chase and the second-highest in men’s ODI history.
Gill smashed 26 fours and eight sixes in his unbeaten 223 off 133 balls, reaching his double century from 117 deliveries to break Ishan Kishan’s record for the fastest ODI 200. His innings also became the highest individual score in an ODI run chase. Rohit Sharma provided superb support with 101 off 75 balls, with the pair sharing a record 255-run opening stand. Rohit also completed 12,000 ODI runs during his century.
Virat Kohli added 29 before falling, while Ruturaj Gaikwad finished unbeaten on 31. Earlier, West Indies posted 405/7, powered by centuries from John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114), becoming only the sixth team to have three centurions in an ODI innings.
Kuldeep Yadav claimed his 200th ODI wicket as India’s bowlers struggled, but Gill’s extraordinary knock sealed a historic victory.
