Former India pacer Mohit Sharma is set to return to Chennai Super Kings as the franchise’s new bowling coach for IPL 2027, according to a source aware of the development.
The 38-year-old is expected to replace Eric Simmons, who served as CSK’s bowling coach under former head coach Stephen Fleming. CSK head coach Zaheer Khan has reportedly decided to bring Mohit into his support staff, with further appointments expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Mohit played 48 IPL matches for CSK across four seasons and was also part of the franchise during two editions of the Champions League T20, featuring in 10 matches. He last played in the IPL during the 2025 season before retiring from professional cricket in December. His return comes as CSK begin a new phase under Zaheer, who replaced long-serving head coach Fleming.
The franchise won its fifth IPL title in 2023 but failed to reach the playoffs in each of the following three seasons. Mohit’s experience with CSK and his playing career are expected to add familiarity to Zaheer’s new coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027.
