Ravichandran Ashwin Says T20 Cricket Is Here to Stay, Doubts Future of ODI Cricket

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin believes T20 cricket will continue to drive the sport’s global growth while expressing uncertainty over the future of One-Day Internationals.

Speaking after the European T20 Premier League (ETPL) 2026 Player Draft, Ashwin said T20’s shorter format makes it ideal for expanding cricket into new markets and strengthening its Olympic presence. He emphasised that players must constantly adapt to different conditions, citing India’s recent T20I series against Ireland as an example.

While acknowledging the importance of improving overall cricketing skills, Ashwin stated that T20 is “here to stay” and admitted he is “not too sure” about ODI cricket’s long-term sustainability.
