Rafael Jodar Fights Back to Reach Wimbledon Third Round After Epic Five-Set Win
Rafael Jodar continued his dream Wimbledon debut by battling back to defeat fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 3-6, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and advance to the third round.
The match resumed on Thursday after being suspended due to darkness, with Jodar trailing two sets to one. The 19-year-old produced another stunning comeback, adding to his five-set victory over Carreno Busta at Roland Garros earlier this year. Jodar became only the third Spanish teenager in the Open Era, after Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, to reach the Wimbledon men’s singles third round.
He will next face Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki for a place in the fourth round.
