Mertens and Zhang Reunite to Lift Australian Open Women’s Doubles Crown
Elise Mertens and Zhang Shuai marked a successful reunion by winning the Australian Open women’s doubles title, their first Grand Slam together since Wimbledon 2022.
The fourth seeds defeated Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic 7-6(4), 6-4 to claim a ninth combined major crown in just their seventh event as a pair. Mertens secured her sixth Grand Slam, including a third in Melbourne, while Zhang lifted her third.
The duo showed resilience after trailing early, dominating key phases to seal the championship. The victory also ensured Mertens’ return to the World No.1 doubles ranking.
