India concluded the 46th Chess Olympiad 2026 with two medals after the men’s Open team won silver and the women secured bronze following draws in their final-round matches on Sunday.
The Indian Open team drew 2-2 against Hungary to finish second. World champion D Gukesh lost to Hungary’s Gleb Dudin, while Arjun Erigaisi defeated Peter Leko to help India secure a share of the points.
Host Uzbekistan won the Open gold after beating Ukraine 2.5-1.5. Mukhiddin Madaminov defeated Roman Dehtiarov to provide the decisive result. Uzbekistan finished two points ahead of India and Germany, while Germany claimed bronze after defeating the Netherlands 2.5-1.5. India’s women’s team also finished on the podium after drawing 2-2 against Georgia. Savitha Shri held Meri Arabidze to a draw in a difficult position, securing India’s bronze medal.
China won the women’s gold after defeating Vietnam 3-1, while Kazakhstan took silver after drawing 2-2 against Poland.
The double podium finish capped a strong Olympiad campaign for India, with both teams finishing among the top three.
