Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have appointed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their head coach for IPL 2027. He replaces Stephen Fleming, who stepped down in July 2026 after 16 years with the franchise and five IPL titles.
CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan said the decision was discussed with the team’s leadership, including MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson, as well as the owners. Zaheer’s one-year contract will begin soon.
Zaheer, a 2011 World Cup winner, played international cricket for 14 years and featured in 100 IPL matches, taking 102 wickets. He previously worked with Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants in coaching and mentoring roles. This will be his first IPL head-coach position.
CSK have also given Zaheer authority to select his coaching staff. His role will be limited to the IPL team.
