Australia Wins Three Gold Medals as Commonwealth Games 2026 Swimming Begins in Style

Australia made a dominant start to the Commonwealth Games 2026 swimming and para-swimming competitions in Glasgow, winning three gold medals on the opening day of pool events.

Lani Pallister claimed the women’s 400m freestyle title, while Jenna Forrester added gold in the women’s 200m backstroke after earlier securing bronze in the 400m freestyle. Jenna Jones delivered Australia’s third gold by winning the women’s para-swimming 100m freestyle S13 event. South Africa’s Nathan Hendricks stunned home favourite Stephen Clegg to win the men’s para-swimming 100m freestyle S13, while Scotland’s Duncan Scott delighted the home crowd with a Games record victory in the men’s 200m individual medley.

Australia finished the day as the standout nation in the swimming competition.
