India enjoyed a dream start to the 2026 Commonwealth Games as its bowls contingent delivered impressive victories on the opening day. The women’s pairs duo of Pinki Singh and Rupa Rani Tirkey edged past Malta in a thrilling tiebreak, with Pinki delivering the match-winning bowl.
Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya congratulated the athletes, calling it a “thrilling start” for India. In the men’s singles, reigning Asian champion Putul Sonowal stunned reigning world champion Ryan Bester on his Commonwealth Games debut.
Sonowal will next face Cecil Alexander of the Falkland Islands as India looks to continue its winning momentum.
