Australia head coach Andrew McDonald believes Ben Stokes still has plenty to offer in Test cricket and hopes England’s new Test coach can convince the former captain to come out of retirement for next year’s Ashes series.
Stokes retired from Test cricket during the New Zealand series in June, ending a remarkable red-ball career at the age of 35. Speaking to SEN Radio, McDonald said an Ashes comeback would be the perfect storyline and insisted Stokes has “a lot of good cricket left in him.”
With Brendon McCullum no longer England’s Test coach and Stephen Fleming reportedly set to take charge, McDonald feels the new coach should speak to Stokes about a sensational return.
