Cricket legend Sir Garfield Sobers, widely regarded as the greatest all-rounder in the history of the game, has passed away at the age of 89.
West Indies Cricket confirmed the news, paying tribute to the Barbados icon whose extraordinary career transformed the sport. Sobers scored 8,032 Test runs at an average of 57.78 and claimed 235 wickets, while also establishing himself as one of cricket’s finest fielders. His unbeaten 365 against Pakistan in 1958 was a world-record Test score for over three decades. The first player to hit six sixes in a first-class over, Sobers was hailed by Sir Donald Bradman as “the greatest cricketer of all time.”
