Venus Williams Loses 10th Straight Match at Madrid Open

Venus Williams’s difficult comeback continued as she slumped to her 10th consecutive singles defeat, losing 6-2, 6-4 to Kaitlin Quevedo in the opening round of the Madrid Open.

The 45-year-old became the first former World No.1 to endure a 10-match losing streak since rankings began in 1975. Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion, last won a match in July 2025. Meanwhile, World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka begins her clay season aiming to defend her Madrid title.

Despite her struggles, Williams continues to compete, with a wildcard entry lined up for Indian Wells. Quevedo, ranked 140, impressed with a comeback win in her first WTA 1000 appearance.
