Reigning World Champion Dommaraju Gukesh finally broke his winless run in Season 3 of the Global Chess League, inspiring PBG Alaskan Knights to their first victory of the tournament at the Royal Opera House.
In a must-win clash against Alpine SG Pipers, Gukesh produced a composed performance to defeat Fabiano Caruana in 39 moves. He received strong support from compatriot Arjun Erigaisi, while Leinier Dominguez and Kateryna Lagno also secured crucial wins.
Reflecting on his breakthrough triumph, Gukesh said the victory was special after early struggles and credited team bonding and renewed confidence for the turnaround.
