Tickner impressed with 4 for 32 before leaving the field with a suspected shoulder dislocation, while Rae claimed three wickets after a shaky start. West Indies began well with a 66-run opening stand, but regular strikes halted their progress. At 175-4, they seemed set for a strong total, but a late collapse derailed them. New Zealand closed the day at 24-0, trailing by 181 runs and firmly in control.
