New Zealand seized control of the first Test after Jacob Duffy’s superb 5-34 secured a 64-run first-innings lead, dismissing the West Indies for 167 in Christchurch on Wednesday.
At stumps on day two, the hosts were 32-0, extending their advantage to 96. Duffy’s post-rain burst claimed four wickets for two runs, having earlier removed top-scorer Shai Hope for 56. Hope and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (52) resisted with a 90-run stand, but regular strikes from Duffy and Matt Henry derailed the innings.
New Zealand had earlier been stopped on 231 before beginning their second innings confidently through Devon Conway and Tom Latham.
