Virat Kohli smashed an unbeaten 139 while captain Shubman Gill scored 110 as India defeated West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
West Indies posted 295/7 after Justin Greaves scored 101 and John Campbell made 62. Kuldeep Yadav was India’s standout bowler, claiming 4/40.
India began the chase strongly with Rohit Sharma and Gill adding 74 for the opening wicket. After Rohit fell for 32, Gill and Kohli took control with a 151-run partnership. Gill reached his 110 from 108 balls, hitting 13 fours and a six.
Kohli then accelerated dramatically, reaching his 55th ODI century from 74 balls before finishing unbeaten on 139 off 88 deliveries. His innings included 10 fours and nine sixes. He also became only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 15,000 ODI runs.
India reached 300/2 in 41.4 overs, completing the chase with 50 balls to spare.
