CWG 2026: Tejaswin Shankar Creates History, Wins India’s First Decathlon Medal

Tejaswin Shankar scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the men’s decathlon at a major international multi-sport event, claiming bronze at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

The reigning Asian champion finished with 7,976 points, adding another milestone to his career after winning bronze in the high jump at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Tejaswin also became the first Indian athlete to win Commonwealth Games medals in two different athletics disciplines. Grenada’s Victor Lindon clinched gold with a season-best 8,096 points, while Canada’s Damian Warner secured silver with 8,036 points.

Tejaswin impressed throughout the demanding 10-event competition, highlighted by a 2.15m high jump and 7.82m long jump, further cementing his status among India’s finest all-round athletes.
