Sri Lanka have dropped former captain Charith Asalanka from their squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series in Pakistan, which also features England. Asalanka scored just 1, 11 and 7 in the recent ODI series against England.
Avishka Fernando and all-rounder Sahan Arachchige have been recalled, replacing Asalanka and injured all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Fernando earned his return after scoring 447 runs in seven innings at an average of 63.85 in Sri Lanka’s Major Clubs Limited Over Tournament.
Asalanka was also omitted from the T20I squad for the three-match series against Pakistan. Meanwhile, Pathum Nissanka and Dushmantha Chameera remain under fitness scrutiny, with Nissanka required to receive medical clearance before travelling.
The ODI tri-series will begin on October 18, with Pakistan facing Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. The teams will then move to Lahore for the remaining league matches, with the final scheduled for October 31.
