Sourav Ganguly has been appointed the new head coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2027 season. The former India captain replaces Hemang Badani, who served as head coach for the past two seasons.
Ganguly has been associated with the Delhi Capitals franchise since 2019, initially joining as an advisor. After serving as BCCI president, he took on the role of Director of Cricket for the franchise’s men’s and women’s teams. He recently coached Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, guiding them to the final earlier this year.
Ganguly will be tasked with helping Delhi Capitals win their first IPL title. The franchise reached the final in 2020 but has struggled in recent seasons and has not qualified for the playoffs since 2021.
His immediate priorities will include finalising the coaching staff and planning player retentions before the November 15 deadline. The IPL 2027 mini-auction is scheduled to take place in mid-December in Goa.
