Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been included in India’s 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming West Indies series as the team steps up preparations for next year’s ODI World Cup. Shubman Gill will captain India in the three-match series, beginning September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Rohit, 39, and Kohli, 37, now play only ODI cricket internationally after retiring from Tests and T20Is. Rohit’s selection had reportedly been under scrutiny, despite scoring 138 in his last ODI against England at Lord’s in July. Both veterans are keen to feature in next year’s World Cup.

Ravindra Jadeja returns after last playing an ODI in January, while Auqib Nabi and Naman Dhir have earned maiden call-ups and could make their international debuts. Nitish Kumar Reddy, initially selected for the Asian Games, has been withdrawn and will play in the ODI series.

India will also face West Indies in five T20Is from October 6. Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out of the Asian Games due to injury.
