Qatar Snatch Dramatic Draw Against Switzerland to Earn Historic World Cup Point

Qatar secured a historic 1-1 draw against Switzerland in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group-stage clash, earning their first-ever World Cup point on foreign soil.

Switzerland dominated much of the match and took the lead in the 17th minute when Breel Embolo converted a penalty after Remo Freuler was fouled inside the box. The Swiss created numerous chances but failed to extend their advantage despite 25 attempts on goal. Their missed opportunities proved costly as Qatar struck in dramatic fashion during stoppage time.

Homam Ahmed delivered a precise cross from the left, and Boualem Khoukhi rose highest to head home in the 94th minute, sparking wild celebrations and keeping Qatar’s qualification hopes alive.
