Neymar retires from international football
Brazilian superstar Neymar announced his retirement from international football after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16.
The 34-year-old came off the bench to score a stoppage-time penalty, but it was not enough to prevent Brazil’s exit. Speaking emotionally after the match, Neymar confirmed it was his final appearance for the Selecao. He ends his international career as Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals and 58 assists in 130 matches.
Neymar represented Brazil in four FIFA World Cups, won the 2013 Confederations Cup, Olympic gold at Rio 2016 and silver at London 2012. Despite remarkable club success, World Cup glory eluded the Brazilian icon, who leaves behind one of the greatest international legacies in football history.
