India continued their dominant start to the men’s hockey competition at the 2026 Asian Games, thrashing Sri Lanka 16-1 in their Pool A encounter at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium on Tuesday.
Jugraj Singh led India’s goal-scoring spree with four goals, while Abhishek completed a hat-trick as India followed their 13-1 win over Indonesia with another emphatic victory. Mandeep Singh opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Jugraj and Abhishek quickly extended India’s lead. Harmanpreet Singh also struck twice, while Sukhjeet Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh and Vivek Prasad added goals as India went into the second half 8-0 ahead.
India continued to dominate after the break, with Jugraj completing his hat-trick and Harmanpreet adding another goal. Abhishek then completed his hat-trick in the 49th minute.
Sri Lanka pulled one back through Suresh Rathnayake, but Jugraj and Dilpreet added further goals to complete the 16-1 scoreline. India have now recorded two commanding wins in Pool A.
