India’s Gulveer Singh won the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya on Friday, clocking 28:29.38 to finish behind Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew, who claimed gold in 28:27.51. Gulveer stayed with the leading group for most of the race before making his move during the closing stages.
He held on to second place to add another Asian Games medal to the bronze he won in the same event at the 2023 Hangzhou Games.
The Indian athlete said the focus was on executing the race plan rather than chasing a specific timing. He remained relaxed, stayed patient and waited for the right moment to make his move.
“Championship races are always different from races where you’re chasing time. The plan was to stay relaxed, remain with the lead group, and make my move at the right moment,” Gulveer said.
He also credited the Athletics Federation of India and the Inspire Institute of Sport for their support, along with his coaches, physiotherapists, strength and conditioning experts and recovery staff.
Gulveer said his focus remains on making consistent improvements rather than concentrating only on results. His silver added another podium finish for India in athletics and strengthened his record at the Asian Games.
