Formula 1 on Tuesday announced its return to Portugal in 2027 and 2028 under a two-year agreement with the Portuguese government, Turismo de Portugal and promoter Parkalgar.
Portugal boasts a rich Formula 1 legacy dating back to 1958, with races held in Porto, Monsanto and Estoril. The Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, last hosting races in 2020 and 2021, was pivotal during the Covid-19 comeback. Known for its elevation changes and technical layout, the 4.6km circuit promises thrilling racing. Lewis Hamilton remains the only current driver to have won there.
